How can I help”? is the question we’re most asked.

My answer is always “Very simply. You can always love and hug children. And you can spend a few weeks of your life to get a glimpse of how much of the world lives – and let your heart break. But more deeply, in order for you to be useful to the Master here – or anywhere – you must be close to Him and in love with Him. To the degree that you are intimate with Him, you will know what to do, what you must do. Jesus says drastic things in Scripture, such as ‘You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’”

I had a wonderful conversation with sweet Johnson today. As an 18 year old young man living under mami esther’s care, Johnson is walking talking proof that the Annankra family has helped to changed and impact the life of a beautiful boy, who is growing quickly into a wonderfully disciplined man.

This family lives out the Lord’s love every single day.

And Johnson is going to be a part of a domino affect.

Johnson and I discussed a great many things with purpose and focused intent. Both eager to learn each others culture, he reminded me of the purity found so easily in Ghana’s youth. With eager eyes he spoke of one day contributing to the world around him… which is full of opportunity and great minds.

He brings me hope for Africa.

Sunday morning - we had porch/Jesus time. We hear, in the distance, the contrast between praises resounding to the Lord and voodoo chants. As the demonic chants begin to drown out the beauty of the voices singing of His greatness, we silently ask that His name be lifted higher. Join us in praying for the same?

We’re in Ghana! First time with internet access, but so thankful to be here! Please continue praying for the next 6 weeks… that we would have the words of Jesus, the boldness to preach the gospel and love loudly. That we would hear God’s voice and recognize His prompting and act accordingly!

The missionary heart: Care more than some think is wise. Risk more than some think is safe. Dream more than some think is practical. Expect more than some think is possible. I was called not to comfort or success but to obedience….There is no joy outside of knowing Jesus and serving him.

As we celebrate our freedom [with family, friends and fireworks] we’re thinking about the ones who don’t have freedom. This fishberboy slave is one of them. One that we will see in a week!

“I’m a pilgrim in a foreign land plodding forward in the presence of Jesus who struggles with living out the reality that I’m truly worthy of being loved by God and embracing the beauty of my creation.” - Derek
